You post the event in the bulletin, the newsletter, and the Facebook group. Someone texts you asking for the link. You send it. Someone else texts to say they're coming. You add their name to a spreadsheet, or worse, a signup sheet hanging on a bulletin board.
And signing up isn't always just showing up. Someone needs to run sound, someone needs to cover the nursery, someone needs to bring drinks. Right now that's its own text thread, and nobody finds out a slot is uncovered until the day of.
Meanwhile some of what you're planning isn't for the whole church anyway — the deacons' signup, the women's ministry retreat, a family's meal train. Your options are a group text everyone can screenshot and forward, or no system at all.

Add roles like sound, nursery, or setup to any event. People claim a slot when they sign up, and you can see at a glance what's covered and what's still open — no separate thread required.
A link anyone can open
Public events get a shareable link — drop it in the bulletin or a text, and people sign up in one tap. Church-wide and group events show up once someone's logged in, or right on the kiosk at the welcome table — no link needed.
Text reminders that go out by themselves
Guests can opt into an SMS reminder when they sign up. Before the event, they get a direct text — not a group blast, a message to each person. You don't have to remember to send anything.
Kiosk mode for the welcome table
Put a tablet at the door on event day and people can check in or sign up right there. Works for walk-ins even when the online list is already full. Just a browser — no hardware, no setup.
Sign up the whole family at once
Add your spouse and kids to your household once, and register everyone for an event in a single tap — without them needing their own account or login.
